Nameless faces

No matter how tempting it may sometimes be,
When my toe gets stubbed,
Or you eat out loud on public transport next to me.
Please, do try your best,
To not be an arsehole to one another.

Because there’s no circumnavigating
the stubborn pact,
That we all make,
here, as sailors on the same raft.

All aboard this long-distance journey,
Into the unknown verse.
That’s only going to work
If we all act as nodes in the same network.

That sometimes likes to push,
When the weather’s good
In the fields and the woods,
And a few hangovers spent dancing them off together.

Lots of broken bits,
Trying to figure out what rhythms fit,
To the seasonal hymn.

Me and my friends,
Plodding along some pilgrimage
to somewhere,
For the sake of some unknown-thing,
Until suddenly,
Something clicks,
And in we slip.

Into a brand new version
Of whatever the hell this is.
In some field somewhere,
Way out there.
On an unfolding neon stream
blooming out from black-infinity.

That makes the sounds of a symphony,
Coming up from inside the Earth,
Screaming at the stars above
The midwife, the nurse
Giving birth to a brand new bend in the universe.

And it works.
for a beautiful, fleeting moment,
a terminally-ill organism,
bursts into life.

A spontaneously-crowdsourced ecosystem,
comes alive and then dies.

As the weekend-ends,
and we struggle to make amends
From what’s left of the orchestra.

That once sung an ode
to all the pretty things.
Before all those bits became broken again.

And we had to leave,
Riding out in the wake of the pain
Of being separated again.

Back to being common strangers,
Nameless faces
Away from our communal nature
And the resonance,
we once built in this chamber.

Spoken word poetry and poetic considerations on public affairs. Maybe the odd story as well.
